Not just in the US. Paterson has been knowingly buying Pasteur as CWRS. Maybe shady. Maybe buying specs.

I can concur with Tom that many US buyers buy mill spec vs classes. I find winter wheat the exception though.

Gerrid: if your promoting, "we either do it ourselves or have someone else do it for us," and hating them for it and the higher seed cost as the end result. We need to find a way to make Producers a big player in this. Who would be opposed to a check off to fund Producer proprietary seed? For the unteenth time what is wrong with the pulse model? I asked in the winter how much a tonne based on an average wheat crop would be needed to make it possible. What about the Western Grains Research Foundation? Or is the government going to fold that tent too and keep its assets, some of which are Producer contributions. There is a solution but to do nothing and bitch and moan we don't like the outcome.......

We can't grow CPS well but I have spoke to US buyer regarding it. He said the price he would would depend on customers specs minus their basis. Novel idea to you Farmaholic?

Braveheart. I'm not feeling the "partner" thing either. LOL All my farming career all I've ever noticed was how little everyone wanted to pay me for my product and how much they wanted me to pay for theirs. Choice was either yes or no but if you wanted it you either paid what they asked or took what they offered.... yes or no were my choices.

One thing is, people always make the choice that's right for them, at the time they make it.

When you sell a raw commodity, you sell at wholesale and all your purchases are at retail.

Farmaholic we are a long way from a farmer owned breeding company.

1st step is commissions have to talk with each other

Just think back to all the discussion about how much SPG gets about the size of the check off.

Their is zero chance that farmers will band together and demand a non refundable check off at the rate that Australia is at.

Then think about all the discussion about WGRF and railroad overages.

Brave heart is right many farmers want something for nothing.

That's why I see a blended system.
We need a good farmer private/public/corporate partnership.

To try and keep out corporate is foolish. Encourage them bring varieties and expertise to market. Farmers will decide what program is best for their farm.

Can go with large upfront cost and all the pitfalls of commercializations and probably have lower seed costs in future.

Zero upfront cost zero risk, EXPENSIVE seed if you see a value proposition for your business.

I think we need both
