    Wheat Prices

Will ask the question again. What are you seeing for current wheat prices concentrating on CWRS and CWAD? How are grade and protein spreads being handled.

What I am seeing (people will correct me) is that base grade prices for companies are readily available for prime customers. Comes to you by text on cell, pass word protected website access, and other ways including direct contact with a company representative. Those on the outside (including me) are finding getting price quotes challenging (processes oriented to customers who generate business).

Grade and protein spreads are something that is not readily published or available without digging. Is this your experience?

Will companies offer basis contracts? Off which futures? I suspect MGEX but wanting to confirm.

I would encourage everyone to share experiences in the new world. Things will be different starting with understanding how grades and proteins will be handled and the market signals/how different companies choose to compete. The issues existed in the old world - they were just hidden in the price pooling black box and you as farmer were not exposed to them (a part of price averaging).

The "three government stooges" on the new Conservative Wheat Bored" don't represent a lot of people. No way does it even come close to the old organization known as the Canadian Wheat Board. All farmer participation or representation in its operations or structure are GONE.
Most of its regulatory functions are kaput or jobbed off to "government friendly or favoured" organizations or corporations.

If you can't see this then you must have been asleep for the past while.

Translation: Left wing, socialist, political and ideological "interests" that have nothing to do with actually selling grain or running your farm like a business.

The CWB has thier prices on the web page.

I don't know what the other buyers are offering.

Where do you find price spreads for grade and protien in the USA market?

Maybe if we fallowed these we could come up with a better idea of what to expect.

I have been following Montana Wheat and Barley Committee historical prices. I suspect USDA also has data but haven't done the full research. This is an area I/ARD are working on to try to understand and prepare material for farmers.

Gehl is choosing to having a tantrum... because we are NOT all EQUAL any MORE...

NOW Gehl must NOW be Responsible for his own decisions... which is real tough when a person has soooo many choices.

Willie, the "new" CWB pools grain and
sells it all averaging the returns it
gets to those participating in the pool.

              Other than mandatory participation for
everyone which is now voluntary, what
has changed? (About the business model,
not a room full of farmers who really
know very little about grain marketing,
              business, board governance, etc).

The political rhetoric is getting pretty
old and brings little to a meaningful
              discussion.

                  Charlie,

I hear the criticism that prices are hard to find. I totally disagree. Basis is now established.

When I buy a tractor... I don't advertise the price... I am waiting for the day when Vancouver B.C. and Rupert... report export prices like Portland/PNW ports do.

How did the US USDA force this to happen?

Perhaps the same legislation need to happen in Canada to provide transparency since our futures don't have a viable volume.

Grain Price Arbitage needs transparent information to occur. Now reports from growers need to be collected and published by our new leaders... the Alberta Wheat Commission.

I don't tell folks our family business... but when teachable moments occur... we respectfully try to help folks who are interested... to work together and build a better mouse trap!

                  Cheers!

And the answer is........ Nothing! Well
except for the room full of navel gazers
not collecting premiums with HUGE expense
accounts no longer congregate in dark
                    shadows.
