    Flexicoil 8000 air drill

I've had a bourgault air seeder for years...but looking at switching over to the 21st century.

    Any good or bad experiences?

Rented one for a quarter, neighbour had
a 6000. Was tricky getting the wing
pressure right. Wing pressure and fan
both require hydraulics so be sure you
    have lots of capacity.

Other than that was just the same as
    6000. Maintenance is big consideration.
    Residue management, either use stripper
header or make dust of the straw. Even
though is a disk can drag piles if
    conditions are right.

Seed depth is perfect with no
disturbance if no residue or at least
    very little.

      uneducatedbum,

If you are in an area where spring frost nips off canola... Disk machines at least DOUBLE the loss from spring frost post seeding. Having a black (trash free) grove where the seed emerges truly increases the resistance to frost killing seedlings.

This is why we gave up on disk machines... $60/ac plus the yield loss of replanting canola are failures disk machines bitterly create.

Disk machines are great for cereals and pulses... that can freeze off and recover...

1 foot spacing (with tight less than 1 in. seedopener) on Conservapac drills for Canola works great... seeding inter-row in stubble is fabulous... conserves moisture and also helps canola survive frost/wind events by keeping straw standing to shelter newly emerged plants. Larger farms have TWO drills... one disc and one hoe... for the best of both worlds and crop specific planting.

      Cheers!
