    Good New-Crop Canary Seed Prices

Anybody growing canary seed? Canary seed buyers are still offering $.25/lb. for new-crop although they did offer $.30/lb. last week.

Be careful who you deal with though. Deal with reputable firms because canary seed is not covered under the Canada Grains Act. That means if a buyer goes belly-up after he's got your seed but before you have been paid for it, even if the buyer is bonded, the bond won't cover canary seed sales! Canary seed may be included in the Canada Grains Act by fall.

Fire up your web browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator) and point it to <http://www1.agric.gov.ab.ca/app06/herbselector>. That is a herbicide selector on Alberta Agriculture's Ropin' the Web. It'll help you select a herbicide or herbicides for canary seed and give you ideas about timing. This morning (Monday) the selector is incredibly slow. Maybe that's everyone thinking about spraying now that it has rained!

Sorry. I didn't put the herbicide selector web-site address correctly so it didn't show in the previous post. It's at http://www1.agric.gov.ab.ca/app06/herbselector .

How do you think the recent rain in the southern praries will effect the canary seed prices.

New-crop contract canary seed prices have already have been backed off by quite a bit since the rain started. The latest quotes I've seen for Sep/Oct/Nov delivery were 20 to 21.5 cents, down considerably from the high less than a week ago.
