WHO HAS EXPERIMENTAL FIELDS THIS YEAR AND WHAT!

Every year we try different stuff on the
farm. This year we have peas on Canola
stubble. Its wet yet peas on canola
stubble is doing really better. Yes the
red army down the road has done this for
a few years with awsome results. Now
beside the test is Peas on HRS stubble
no prework or harrow. Not nice yellow vs
    green.
We also tried kelly harrowing 2 quarters
canola and put HRS and two of HRS and
they have Canola. All are better than
    the heavy straw fields.
Tried also liquid fert on peas with
herbicide to purk up the yellow plants.
Their is also the 60 acres by our yard
that has the 200lbs phos and 100 lbs
ammonia. Interesting since ists 8 years
now HRS. Disease was very bad and has
    been sprayed.
One note on way to moosejaw today their
is a Special fields that Agritrends I
think is showing their results. Ah so
far Not so good. Will be interesting to
    watch.
The experiment Idea came from Hudye"s, I
always take a trip up to see field of
    dreams.
What do others do or are trying!

We put awaken seed treatment on some of our HRS wheat this year and it is sure showing. Root development is twice the untreaded and crop seems less stressed and more advance. Have to see the difference though once it is going in the hopper! Thats the real test.

Have grown peas on canola stubble for years. Excellent results. This year is no exception evened out a half this year with peas on canola stubble and peas in heavy wheat stubble. Both inter row seeded with the master. So far look the same. First year inter row seeding and seeing some very interesting results thus far.

      1) Red lentils in 18" wheat stubble at day 42 are 3-4" taller and healthier than in the driven down stubble right beside.

      2) Peas inter row are 4-6" taller and healthier than driven down stubble at day 44.

      3) Seed treatments. ZERO difference in treated red lentil vs. untreated (trilex). ZERO difference in peas treated with cruiser pulses, Allegiance FL and no treatment. ZERO difference in durum treated with Raxil, Raxil WW and no treatment.

      4) Myke PRO on green lentils. Seeing increased root mass at day 38, but no visual difference above ground. Interesting that myke PRO trial on a half section displays the worst fusarium root rot. Relationship here?

      5) Top dressed canola (3-4 leaf stage) with 28-0-0 goin ballistic as well durum top dressed with 28-0-0 at 4-5 leaf stage goin nuts. Observed a very slow conversion in some extra 46-0-0 that was spread with agrotain vs. 28-0-0 on durum at same stage and day.

6)Top dressed peas with 28-0-0 (10 usg on day 30) look same as undressed at day 44

Jd we did try a few years back no seed treatment
on durum and full rate red. No difference at
        harvest.
Peas that were really yellow have smartened up a
bit will see after this week.

ESN plots in wheat and canola.

JDGreen: Do you put a modest amount of fert when you seed and top dress only if crop and conditions look good. Why top dress peas? Won't the nodules just get lazy and quit fixing the N or have you seen economic returns top dressing peas.

wd9: we tried the ESN on canola this year as well.

lentils in long stubble will have to grow up to the light, so are taller?

Try to target N needs as per soil tests. Find it
easier to apply around 2/3 rds n at seeding and
see what the year is shaping up to be before
hammering down the remainder with the sprayer.
The n on the peas was only done as a 50' pass
along side a canola field for intersts sakes.
Gonna dig some roots in a week and chek
nodules. Yes hedge obviously they want to grow
out of the stubble but there is more to it than that.
The micro climate produced between the rows
seems to be the spot where they like to grow the
best. Not only taller plants but much bigger
leaves, healthier etc. seeing this in canola in
durim stubble vs pulse stubble as well. Wish av
was easier to post pics. Perhaps klause can give
us a step by step tutorial??

                  Trials,

1)Variable Rate, Canola Seed and Fert, Beside "the old way" seeing better plant stand in VRT mostly because the low areas were seeded at 7lbs and hill tops at 3.5. Flooded out areas had lots of seed. Luck?

                  2) Top Dressed Durum with 5lbs of UAN with In Crop Herb and 50% Tilt and it looks awsome.

                  3) Accidental trial. lost air pressure in our seed tank, Canola was seeded to light plant stand was 1 - 2 plants per sq foot. 80 Acres on a Half Section. we choose to leave it and have sprayed Liberty twice and flee beetles both times to save every plant. It looks like its gonna be fine pretty much canopied over. Thanks Tiffany Martinka, and farmer neighbors gave us their opinions.

                  4) Variable rate flax, seeded flaxseed 55lbs high spots 90lbs low spots, also VR'd Potash and Nitrogen on that field. More N in High and less in Low, Mor K in Low and Less in High. Looks awesome so far.

VR French Green Lentils. More on hill
tops, less in the low spots. Trying to
keep them from rotting at the end of the
year. When I rolled them they looked good
all over. Haven't been able to get to them
since due to rain and flooded roads. I
guess I'll find out in a week or two when
I go to spray them with the first shot of
                    fungicide.

For those seeding peas on canola stubble, how are you dealing with the flushes of volunteer canola? I have one field of peas on canola stubble this year and with all the rain, the last flushed of volunteer canola seem to have grown throught the odyssey dlx that I applied and the peas do not have the ground covered yet.

I spray 1/3 rate pursuit with lots of
water. By the time any canola grows
through that it only serves to hold the
peas up for harvest. Don't use Viper or
Solo, the only thing it kills is the peas
                        you run over.
