    Tarriffs

Just got home from US. I am allowed to import
only 20 collective dollars of dairy products.
Includes butter, milk, cheese, yogurt etc. Butter
is $2.99 per pound in the USA.

Any dairy goods exceeding the $20.00 total is
subject to a tariff of 300% x excess dollars.

What is the matter with this picture? Glad
    To be home, Pars

Its one turkey, two dozen eggs maximum or it won't be a bargain if you run across certain customs agents.

The size of the turkey and eggs apparently doesn't matter.

Nothing wrong with the picture. Thats protecting supply management for Canada.

On the other hand; just try to get some consumer bought fruits, vegetables and meat into the USA.

Then the Canadian rules seem quite reasonable.

There's nothing reasonable about the supply management rules. It's legalized theft.

                  Question for someone who milks.
Should our dairy industry follow the CWBs example over the last generation??
Not interested in old scabs, just saying a textbook case of cranium insertii rectumus.

And what do you call seizure at US points of entry of your bacon strips; US grown oranges and Beef of any origin whatsoever.

I say those are all poor examples of free trade. The supply management system is just another such example.

I fully support the supply management system in Canada for the commodities that are currently covered.

If we don't want our farmers to prosper just eliminate supply management and watch the USA dominate and CONTROL our market.

Tarriffs are a two way street. Ask any livestock guy
about that. Even now under COOL it costs a
Canadian producer 60 to 70 bucks more per head
to submit the identical paper work compared to a
US producer. As far as US dairy and poultry go, are
their subsidies factored in to those price
comparisons? At one time the Govt subsidy on milk
was 100%! Also, don't just compare price - compare
quality as well. Their butter is more likely to be
oleo. And Pars, you pretty much summed it up in
your last sentence - "glad to be home". Perhaps you
                          betrayed yourself.
