    STUPID ELEVATOR SYSTEM

Got a call yesterday that they wanted a 130tonnes of feed barley ASAP, like
yesterday or today. I was in tractor seeding at the time. I starting phoning
for a truck and set up the auger after it started raining. Today at 7AM
in the rain the truck driver phoned to say they didn't need the barley.
This contract was sign over a month ago and was promised to take it before
    seeding.
Are larger producers getting treated the same or do they just go after the smaller
units, as they don't care if the producer deliver or goes elsewhere. They can't
say there is a car shortage. Today I drove a 20mile parts run along an unused
rail line. For the nearly the full 20 miles it was car except for the crossing
    breaks.
This is not the first time with the same company. A few years ago a malt barley
contract when the same way. They kept putting my off for months. Final asked and
told they I was heading to BC for a week. I didn't make it to Vancouver before
I got a call. I made the arrangement with the trucker and turned around, only to
get a call on the day to deliver that they didn't want any grain that week.
Maybe I am just stupid to keep dealing.

Sometimes they need to be treated like children and told no.

We try and accommodate their requests most times as we
find it makes for good relations. But sometimes if the
request is too hard to meet we say no.

I usually have more trouble with truckers than the elevators.
It is the biggest reason I hate growing cargill canola. I get a
call to load canola with 3 hours notice and it is the last day
they are accepting for the month. I get told better load us or
it will be next month. I say ok but I am two hours away and
there is no one around the yard. This has happened with
several companies, I just tell them if you don't give me 24
    hours notice I won't load.

Same here Gerald. 4 times lined up trucks
to haul a malt contract then the night
before it was, sorry never got trains.
Instead, hauled it last week during
      seeding. the system is pathetic.

I thought all along, that we was the only
ones bein treated like dogsh*t. Butt it
seems ta be the way it is all over.
        Comedian framers deserve everthin they
get, we allowed this abortion to cum to
fruition. Cousin wes whants a level
playin field and Comedians do love a
challenge. The new modern system is
efficient, just not fer framers, butt
        everybody else in angribusiness!

Good morning all. Interesting topic . When I worked for Sask Wheat Pool back when they were building concrete elevators there was a statement made that with the new larger elevators there would never be a shortage of grain cars. It was a joke then and it still is. There is always some bullshit excuse why there arent any cars to load. I happen to think that half the time the employees like it when the elevator is full , so they dont have to do any work. Nobody gives a shit any more. At least down here at Maple Creek it looks that way. I sures hell hope that when a Pioneer decal is on the wall that they have some people that can chase business a little better!
