    stealth openers

Ok, getting really tired of these
    again. Hoses pulling out, plugged
seed holes. Have to get out every so
often to check and unplug. Anyone
here encounter this too or am I the
only lucky one? Piss poor design if
    you ask me.

Yes have had trouble with them also. A lot of farmers
had them in the valley. They where awful in the wet
years and we also had issues with large seed. Such as
peas and soybeans. For us the happiest day was
removing them and going to the Atom Jet. A lot of
seeders use them in our area, Seems the only way to
plug these openers is - back up in the mud with the
    seeder down.

For the hoses pulling out, we put 1" pipe in the boot and attached the hose to it. For the plugging, if your openers get worn, especially sharp along the outside edge, your doomed and need to put on new ones. Price of the openers are up about 25% this year. We buy the standard ones and hard surface them.

I was thinking about putting a pipe in
there. Just havnt tried it. That's my
summer project. Did it fit tight so it
will stay in on its own or did you
fasten it somehow? Yes I do know about
the worn out situation too. They are
worse when worn. But they have done it
since new, just not as much as when worn
out. I've also been wondering if
washering up the bottom shank bolt would
help by changing the angle at the back
of the opener. Maybe then they wouldn't
be quite as prone to dig in the mud/
        dirt?

I've never used them so I shouldn't comment. But, when I ordered my CNH(Flexicoil) drill several years back I decided I wanted nothing to do with them, simply because I thought they were sub-soilers and unnecessarily broke up the seedbed too much and left it prone to drying out too much. I thought the same about the Gen boot too. But that may not be a bad thing for some people.

Went from stealth to atom jet side band. Like the change. But as with anything both has their advantages. Liked where the stealth put the fertilizer but like where the atom jets put the seed. I am plugging outside runs a bit but I think it is more from drills still turning when going in ground and some openers get dirt pushed in the side. But all said would never go back to stealth.

Used them on our Flexicoil years ago hated
them. Switched to atom jet and never
              looked back.
Then purchased the seedmaster and 3310 and
              well it hasnt stopped raining.

We have stealth openers on our Bourgoult drill.
It came that way when we got the drill. There is
2 washers on the top of every bolt of every
opener to change the angle of the opener. This
could be different for a Bourgoult drill.

Sometimes the bottom shoot where the
fertilizer comes out plugs in really wet
conditions but we have never had any trouble
                with the top shoot plugging.

Yes we also have two washers on the top bolt to bring the back of the boot up. We hammer the pipe in a little and it fits nicely.

We use the stealth double shoot openers. A banding point and a paired row opener for seed and starter Fert. we also have a spacer under the top bolt to change the angle. We have lots of trouble with the banding point being plugged with mud, very little with the seed openers. We would sure like to find something that works better.

As soon as the Carbide is gone we get plugging, so change the opener at that time. Before that though we are getting straw pinning on the front of the carbide as it forms a point as the cast of the boot wears away. $99 at Case or New Holland is robbery for these openers!
What is the price of the Atom Jet and will it fit on the Flexi Coil body ??

I've been happy with them on our Bourgault FH and now the 8800. Since '06 we've been using the Stealth bodies with the 3.5" Stealth spread tips and after they wore down (which didn't take long) we switched to 3.5" VW's with carbide on tip and wings. Never had an issue that I can remember of any plugging in mud. The Bourgault hoses were too small for the boots so we put on a short piece of bigger hose and hose clamped them all. Again don't remember having any issues of them comming out.

They were a pain in the ass to put on and off but a good friend had some extra's so I bought his. And he's had similar positive results with the exact same set up.

But like everything, nothing works perfectly all the time in every conditions. If that happened then God wouldn't have created our vulgar language lol.
