    Seeding Intentions

With spring around the corner everyone must have some idea as to what will make them millions for the upcoming crop yr. Whats everyone planning? Where will be the cut-backs, and increases? In some areas moisture looks to be the issue, where i am moisture is good.

How about you reveal yours first. It is going to be fun this fall without the CWB contract # of area and tonnes. The buyers will actually go for a drive and trying and figure out yield and for some of the city boys what a crop even looks like...Most do not have a hot clue ,just like stats canada...

My acres will be 52% canola, 26% HRSW, and 22% oats. Have not grown any HRSW for the last 11 years and will try some again now that CWB is gone.

Jd what are you replacing with the Hard Red? Was at first thinking to go just with Canola and Soft wheat which has been the only thing I planted in last few years. Now possibly plant 2 quarters of hard red. Maybe substitute 2 quarters of the Canola with yellow or green peas.

            Tentatively:

            Red Spring: 20%
            Durum: 12%
            Malt Barley: 6.5%
            Canola: 20%
            Flax: 13%
            Green Peas: 21.5%
            Sm Gr Lentils: 7.0%

I would get done seeding sooner if I wasn't always cleaning out the drill.

              25 % oats, 25% 2 row barley and 25% hemp.
The last 25% is in yellow clover to plow down and
then plant it to winter wheat in the fall.
I will try to grow hemp instead of hrsw. I am
somewhat of a pessimist, so I anticipate a push of
old crop wheat inventory being sold August 1,
which will soften wheat prices. This will work itself
out I am just not mentally prepared to grow hard
              red wheat yet.

                6% yellow peas

                  Approx 20% Canola
                  30% Barley
                  40% CPS wheat
                  10% HRS

In my area its way easier to grow and
grade CPS than HRS so I'm not taking
that chance until I understand the
                  discounts better.

30% canola, 30% HRSW, 20% flax, 20% lentils - 3 year rotation with canola. I just can't convince myself to go with a 2 year rotation and farm with a short term perspective although my profitability in the short term would in all likelihood, be better.
