Cropweek 2012 - Murad Al-Katib touts the Future Opportunities of Pulse Crops

    #2
Murad gave a great presentation! Thanks to Pulse Canada and SPG we have a bank of research completed and in the works to validate the value of pulses in food and food ingredients!

And we can all help by adding Pulse(s) in particular lentils to almost everything: Chili, soup, hamburgers, rice... Less meat more vegetative protein..!

And yes, lentils cook in the same time as rice.

Was this bank of research completed paid for by
compulsory checkoff money from farmers? Pars

Yes Pars I think it was, at least in part. From what I understand the farmer money is leveraged with govt and other producer dollars from other provinces.
Interesting thing for though, I was at the annual meeting and there was no resolutions for a refundable levy. For me if I dont feel I am getting good value for my levy dollars I would make a stink and I expect most other growers would feel the same.
On a somewhat related note, what about wheat and barley ? Do we need a couple new orgs to work on that now the CWB is out of the way? Sorry to high jack post Shawn but Pars asked the question

If the directors are worth their salt, they will
make and pass a motion :
"Be it resolved that a Saskatchewan pulse levy
is refundable to any farmer requesting a refund."

Anything less is continued legislated stealing. And
I shouldn't have to attend a meeting for a fair,
sane director to understand the concept of right
and wrong. Leadership is why they are
          supposoedly there Pars

Anyone see the annual statement of the pulse
board? They take in a pile of money. Maybe its
time to cut back a bit. They raise the levy and no
            one complains.
