    Red River Farm Network News

    Sunday Jan 1

    Highlights I picked out...

"A Dry Pattern Forecast — As we flip the calendar to 2012, World Weather Inc. meteorologist Drew Lerner expects the dryness to continue in the Southern Plains, the Southeastern US and in the Northern Plains. "As we come into the growing season and we watch all three of these dry pocked areas which obviously surround the Cornbelt, it will be very interesting to see how they behave," said Lerner. With a lack of moisture, Lerner does not expect any planting delays this spring in the Northern Cornbelt. Lerner sees the possibility of a cooler-than-normal spring and a warmer-than-normal summer growing season.

Drought Losses Mount — Reports from Argentina say the drought has already cost corn growers some $940 million. The drought, which has severely impacted parts of Cordoba and Buenos Aires provinces, has reduced the estimated size of the Argentine corn crop by four million tons. There are also reports of some corn being chopped for silage or rolled into bales.

Cordonnier Cuts South American Crop Estimates — Corn and Soybean Advisor Michael Cordonnier has cut his estimate for South American corn and soybean production. The outlook for Brazilian corn production is now at 60 million tons, down from 63 million in the previous forecast. Argentine corn production is estimated at 27 million tons, down from 28 million. Brazilian soybean production is estimated at 74 million tons, down from 75 million in the last report. Argentine soybean output is estimated at 53 million tons, dropping 500,000 tons from the last estimate. Dry weather has stressed the crop, which is taking the blame for the reduction in crop estimates."

    Dear John,

I just did the old crop new crop calculations.

At the local elevator... New crop 1CWRS13.5 is worth $10-15/t more than the CWB is offering. PLUS the Dec 2012 is $.50/bu below the March 2012.

So we are over $30/t MORE than the CWB offer right now...

Oberg and the crew of 8 had better think through the argument again. No B or C series contracts... limited supply... all should indicate less supply and higher prices NOW... NOT next fall.

Instead exactly the opposite is occuring!

I just hopes it turns out to hurt the crazy eights' farms.

It would be nice to see someone at the old cwb be held responsible for the discretionary trading losses, the purchase of ships we didn't need, and the legal fees they took out of the pool. Along with an advertising budget that would choke an elephant.

Class action? Sounds good to me. Can we include the unions, nfu, united church? I wouldn't really care if the lawyers took it all, someone needs to be shown some consequence of restricting others freedom.

One thing I didn't touch on in that article is the fact that, if a stay is granted, the Eight are re-instated as CWB directors.

Any chance the reason for a stay is to get them back into power - and bring the CWB back to the courtroom?

And get access to the pool accounts again?

          Just asking....

We should seal the accounts so they cant get
            their hands on the money.

How can a court case fought in Manitoba effect
            a federal corporations?

            No problem- no worry!

                Burbert,

The CDN gov. did take over the grain industry in 1943. Nothing had changed till C18 bill passed Dec 15 2011... WHEN C24 the OLD CWB Act had always stated the Gov. of Ca. owned ALL the CWB assets... .

The object of the new C18 is now for grain growers using the CWB... instead of there being no 'duty of care to grain growers' as the old C24 CWB Act was proven to force on grain growers in the 'designated area'.

                19. (1) The Corporation may sell and dispose of grain acquired by it as a result of its operations under this Act for the prices that it considers reasonable.

                Profits

                (2) Profits realized by the Corporation from its operations in grain under this Act during any crop year, other than from its operations under Part 2, with respect to the disposition of which no provision is made elsewhere in this Act, are to be credited to the contingency fund.

                Losses

                (3) Losses sustained by the Corporation from its operations under Part 2 in relation to any pool period fixed under that Part, during that pool period, for which no other provision is made under this Act, are to be paid out of moneys provided by Parliament.

                *PLEASE NOTE:*

Under C18; Profits "are to be credited to the contingency fund."

Under C24 this WAS the law; Profits "shall be paid to the Receiver General for the Consolidated Revenue Fund."

I understand the new CWB under C18 can now even market other grains outside the old C24 'designated area' which was not possible under C24.

The "Harper CWB" will go nowhere fast with the "suck-up five" running it.

Their mandate is to do what Herr Ritz wants...period.
