Market School Video: Time to calculate your projected Cost of Production for next year.

    Hi Everyone,
This looks like it is going to be an uncertain year with large swings of price volatility...

I suggest that everyone take some time in December when you are booking seed, prepaying for fertilizer and other inputs to figure out your projected Cost of Production per bushel on your major crops.

These numbers will help you determine what prices you need to market to be profitable and manage your risk.

Here is a video we did outlining some of the process.

    Take care,

Manitoba Agriculture has some very nice Cost Of Production XL spreadsheets for grain and livestock which can be readily adapted for any area.

Googling should find them for you, that is how I got them.

Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development's cost of production spreadsheets.

You might also look at crop choices. Crop choices does risk analysis based on variability in yields, grades and prices.
