I guess someone forgot to tell them that even though they own former Esso fuel dealers, sell fertilizer and chemicals etc etc, you still have to pay for what you use. Probable also found out that the difference between their costs and their selling prices to other farmers weren't enough.

        Likely poor managers to boot

This is part of a letter from December 2010.

Wigmore Farms Launches Food Division - Wednesday, December 08, 2010

December 1, 2010 (Regina SK, Canada) - As health-conscious Canadians begin to take a keen interest in where their food comes from, Wigmore, a Saskatchewan based agricultural company is proud to announce today that it is formally launching Wigmore Foods, a new division of the Company geared toward bringing pulse- based products to Canadian consumers.

Known and respected internationally as a producer and bulk exporter of Canadian-grown pulses, Wigmore is now bringing that reputation and success home by adding a new focus on Canadian consumers.

High in fibre, low in fat, gluten free and an excellent source of protein, pulses are a great choice for healthy eating. Pulses are also high in complex carbohydrates and low in sodium and cholesterol, which contributes to a healthy heart and body.

With the release of five individual pulse-based consumer products, Wigmore Foods will begin direct customer sales from its website at www.wigmorefarms.com. Offered to consumers in convenient 900g re-sealable packages, Wigmore Foods products will also be offered to restaurants and other commercial buyers in 10kg bulk packages.

“Our focus has been on exporting Canadian products overseas,”says Wigmore CEO, Greg Menzies. “We have built a reputation as a responsible exporter and now we look forward to providing healthy, wholesome foods in a convenient, appealing package to our fellow Canadians.”

            ABOUT WIGMORE
The Wigmore family has over 100 years of agricultural history in Saskatchewan with over 25 years in the Grand Coulee area of the Regina Plains. For many years a modest-sized family farm, Wigmore has grown to become five divisions under on banner. Today, Wigmore farms manage over 42,000 acres, operate two pulse-processing plants, exports product around the world and fields an eight-site chemical and fertilizer distribution network.
Currently operating three farm modules in southern Saskatchewan, Wigmore works with local farm families to grow and process the finest grains and pulses Canada has to offer. Under the Farm Module approach farmers and investors maintain ownership of their land while Wigmore offers support in the day-to-day operations such as cropping plans, budget, transportation and processing logistics. Business centers throughout Saskatchewan provide exceptional customer service, agronomic support and a broad range of products. Wigmore’s modern cleaning and packaging facilities have the capacity to process over 100,000 MT annually offering flexible processing solutions along with timely deliveries, accurate assessment of grade and sound market intelligence. As a result, Wigmore offers a unique advantage to buyers both domestic and international, exporting in bulk to over 25 countries. With the launch of a fifth division, Wigmore Foods, Wigmore has begun to offer its high quality pulses in small packages to Canadian consumers. Focused on growth and sustained profitability, Wigmore holds fast to its goal of managing its resources well, growing crops and food the world values and creating diverse jobs for the next generation of skilled farmers.

I also like the last sentence. They are on top their game. WINNING!!

I have not found evidence stating otherwise.

I know Al a bit, the former owner of wigmore, when it was an actual farm. Funny thing is he sold to those, "sell your land to rent more and buy machinery" types. When he made the sale, he insisted on the entity keeping his last name. He is a mite arrogant that way. He may regret this connection someday! Trying to grow into a cargill in 5 years is a recipe for disaster...
