Farmers in Europe are expected to raise grain sowings by 700,000 ha by bringing currently non-productive land back into use, for a total of 56.3 million hectares in 2012. According to Strategie Grains, hectares dedicated to durum wheat will rise by 10% (260,000 ha) and hectares dedicated to spring barley will rise by 6%.
