    CWB

CWB law almost certain to be delayed:

    By Barry Wilson, Ottawa bureau
    23/09/2011 3:59:27 PM
Prairie grain farmers should make their 2012
marketing plan assuming the Canadian Wheat Board
marketing monopoly still will be in place, says a key
    opposition opponent of government dismantlement
    plans.

Winnipeg New Democrat MP Pat Martin, opposition
CWB critic, said that the government's promise to
end the wheat and barley monopoly effective Aug.
1, 2012 is virtually certain not to come to pass.

Legislation must make it through Parliament and
the opposition can use multiple procedural tactics
to delay it, even with a majority government.

"A lot of people who follow parliamentary procedure
say that if he (agriculture minister Gerry Ritz)
cannot get it through Parliament by Dec. 15 (when
Parliament adjourns until late January), it is unlikely
to implement the changes needed for a free market
by Aug. 1, 2012," the MP said in an interview. "It's
not that difficult for the largest opposition in
Canadian history to use procedural tactics to stall
    and delay that legislation."

Martin said that since farmers begin to plan during
the winter how to sell their 2012 crop, they should
assume the wheat board single desk will be an
    option next year.

"I think farmers should operate under the
assumption that the status quo will prevail for 2012
because the minister cannot guarantee delivery of
his promise," he said. "With the passion and the
strong belief we are on the side of the angels with
the CWB, there will be a full court press pulling out
all the stops and using every tool at our disposal to
stop, delay and sabotage the intention of the
minister. I don't think he knows the fight he is
    going to get."

    Complicating the government's legislative challenge
is the fact that the first major piece of legislation is
a controversial omnibus crime bill introduced this
week that government leaders say will be a priority
this autumn even as opposition MPs insist they will
    delay it.

Martin said Ritz is "deluded" if he thinks grain
legislation will get through Parliament by the time it
    rises for summer in mid-June.

In the House of Commons Sept. 23, Liberal
agriculture critic Frank Valeriote insisted that the
CWB plebiscite showed prairie producers support
the board's single desk even if they voted
Conservative in the spring election. Of the 56
percent of permit book holders who voted, 62
percent of wheat producers supported the
    monopoly.

Ritz insisted the "vast majority" of farmers
"understand the needs and requirements to market
    on their own behalf."

He noted that they sell their own canola, pulse
crops and livestock. "We know they can do that with
wheat as well, they just need a chance to do that."

Ritz said the opposition can oppose. "They can say
no but at the end of the day, this is going to
    happen."

Whats your opinion on this Jag? Do you embrace the fact that you may lose hundreds of thousands of dollars more on durum via an NDP opposition with its majority of mp's based from Quebec?

My point is that, the NDP is bringing religion into
this. There on the side of the angels, dont you
know. So what side are the conservatives on?
The demons? Give me a break.

this blow hard is ****ing with farmers. What are
we willing to do to gain the right to sell our grain?
All options must be considered. The wolves are
telling the sheep how it's gonna be, like it or not.
It's time for the sheep to start fighting back

JDGreen has a good question. How do Monopoly
supporters feel about the uncertanty that the
Quebec based NDP will bring to western grain
markets? Will the "62%" take the monetary
hit that a year of uncertanty will bring to
them. Their is no wrath like a little old
lady who doesn't get her due.
The soft Monopoly guys that I talk to have
given up the fight and are looking for a CWB
option business plan out of the BOD.

Harper's government would rather stop the un-reported crime that he believes is lurking out there somewhere and imprison the pot growers for longer terms rather than put grain marketing changes through.

If he keeps messing around with his anti-crime bill you will NOT get your long-gun deregistration as well as your marketing FREEDOM. Aren't you glad he enticed you to vote for his governance...suckers.

Oh man vie been skipping over most this stuff for
                quite a while,so if i'm plagiarizing,please refer me.

                What about conservative eastern votes?

                What about b.c conservative votes?

Western canadas cwb vote is worth little more than
a foot note in the scheme of things.

                Is it important?
-hell yes,an exportable bread basket, beyond the
realm of mosts imagination, with capabilities we
take for granted but with technologies the world
                has never seen.

Think about that for a second.

The government has lots of options too. They can give us permits and they can choose not to prosecute exporters.
Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, leftist tyrants.

For Pat Martin to say that the single desk will be
an option next year proves how stupid he is.

A simple question needs to be asked. Does the opposition or for that matter the directors of the CWB think that they can actually stop the conservatives. They have a majority and assured power for 4 years. If the goal is to delay the inevitable then the the question is just who do these stall tactics benefit. They do not benefit farmers as they will have to foot the bill for legal challenges. They do not benefit the grain trade because they absord additional costs do to uncertainty and that also comes back to farmers. It can also be issues with foreign grain trade and whether there are realiablity issues with sales committments. There maybe lawyers who get rich and there maybe politicians who gain political points but at the end of the day delays and challenges will only cost farmers more.

                            Craig,

If the CWB had HALF the marketing and growers interests at heart that grower marketing partners like Bunge have... the whole CWB vs. grower problems; would have been solved years ago. It is great to watch industry leaders like BUNGE prove the NDP/CWB... WRONG about our system...! Viterra has treated us with respect and have been good marketing partners with integrety. With great, fair partners like these... I could list more than 10... WHAT is Chairman OBERG and the NDP DOING. We treat our partners with respect and are honest... guess what... they respond in kind!

SIMPLE.. IF they rip us off... they know the result and do not want the bad PR. Sadly the CWB does not THINK they need to respect commercial grain growers... OBERG/CWB is a disaster as a grower partner for us... because of the 'single desk'! They don't get it... cause they see no need to serve commercial grain grower/farmer 'slaves'!!!

                            What a mess.

PM Harper and Minister Ritz have their work cut out trying to deal with the spoiled BRATS at the CWB. Reason does not rule in this ORG... the first ground rule that must be learned.

How much majority does the govt have? And do
your oppostion politicians ever cross the floor
and vote with govt. It happens here occasionally
if this happened would it put change in doubt?
