Now why would I want to get my flax tested for large carnivorus plants from outer space?

Stil remember seeing that movie home sick from school as a wee lad 100 or so years ago it seems.

My guess is that there is basically no Canadian or American flax to be marketed anyways. The Europeans have basically abandoned their "traditional" suppliers. So much for appeasement. We should have told them where to get their flax and saved ourselves the trouble of "triffid testing" and getting to the same loss of markets anyway. Of couse the real mistake was developing and letting loose the triffid genes in the first place. There will be lots of markets for our scarce flax supplies. And the Americans never seiously tested for triffid since day one. These our just observations and I have oly personal experience to back them up. However, maybe thats more valid than the outright lies that the market experts are feeding us in shovelfuls..

Let them buy the Ukrainian crop of flax. And when its gone, where will they go? The flax acres will go down next year if the premium doesn't start moving up.

BTW where did the FSU get their flax seed from. There were reports a while back that flax in that part of the world tested positive for triffid as well. Interesting, I believe their seed came from Canada.

Oh well, if the conservatives get the cwb file taken care of(I have my doubts) the re-balancing of crop rotations is going to put flax in a lower production. Peas, canola, lentils will all be competing for acres. Chickpeas need acres. And if a reasonable price comes out for wheat and durum - watch out!

How many acres grown this year of flax? Driving thru the country it almost looks like none.

              wd9,

Waiting for clean seed before growing more. It was in the breeder seed. How that happened is very hard to explain. If this had happened in the US it would have been a Billion $$$ compensation package paid by someone.

We just eat the losses instead... wow no wonder the CWB got away with jailing grain growers for giving grain to a 4H Club in Montana!

Is the breeder still a breeder and selling seed?

I sent my flax away today. My understanding is that if you want to sell flax you must have a negative Triffid test. Has that changed?

Incidently Begood I agree with your comments. All this testing is essentially a waste of money. I felt from the start we should have told Europe that , yes, there is a miniscule amount of a variety that was duly approved and licensed in our country. It will not harm your linoleum or paint in any way. Take it or leave it.
