Special crops have done extremely well since the
80's. Farmers have done everything in their
power not to grow wheat board crops. We have
not had a permit book since the 80's. Many
farmers in our district feel the same way.

Small communities and prairie processing have
benefited from the 100 or more processing plants
in Saskatchewan. So it will be with wheat and
    barley.

I am done with UFA, they cut me out. So I move over to Co-op. And never go shopping to UFA. Hope they go under. Dividend is joke.

150 bushel oats at 3 plus is decent enough money. Less input costs too. Sure if you can't get 100 plus to save your soul, oats suck. Here less than 110 is a failure.

          Gofer,

I hope this setback for UFA teaches them to stay true to those who built this company... farmers.

If they provide good service and products... we need the competition...

Does CWB wheat compare? Until recent prices,
                30 bus X $3.00 in 18 months equals poverty.

Tom: I managed a corporation that provided good service and products for years. We made "profit" by considering that our customers were the most important part of our business. Too many businesses have forgotten this. I have nothing against the priciples that UFA works under...perhaps THEY have. Too much head office direction perhaps?...Investing in loss-leading ventures that others were dumping? Who know?...but the UFA management had better act quickly to rectify the situation or it is GONE. Too many of my neighbours are already "switching" to other suppliers especially after two consecutive years of loss.

Wil quote: ...in fact I am pulling my equity OUT.

And UFA not allowed to pull equity out and investment stock as well.
How do you do that pull equity out? by hack their system.. lol.

Our local UFA store, is the store of LAST
RESORT, to expensive, goof ball managers,
staff turnover, almost daily. HIGH, HIGH
prices on everything! The only positive,
is that they hire farmers fer yard staff.
Management very arrogant, know it all
types, who are running the business into
the ground, as fast as they can, it seems.
No a UFA investment is not in the works
                        for our farm.......

                          Wilagro...

Some of UFA's problems, and many other retailers took a terrible hit on inventory devaluation especially on fertilizer and chemicals when the prices came down.

Customers who chose to deal with wholesale fuel dealers, chemical brokers etc have to remember that unlike UFA, they don't have to maintain facilities and staff in multiple locations. YET, (the customer is always right) having to react to these dealers AND maintain local operations certainly does put REAL retailers at a disadvantage when it comes to keeping locations open. It doesn't mean that they were bad managers.

Most of the current farmers on the land in
Comedia, don't even know what a bushel is.
Ifn they did, they wouldn't be getting
such high, huge yields. Neighbours claim
huge high yields, then are seen at the
                            local crap insurance office, making
                            claims. Interesting eh!

DogPatch: Prices came down on chemicals and fertilizer? I wasn't aware of this...couldn't have been too dramatic a change.

The carping from employees at the local UFA tells me a different story where all that I have heard was dissatisfaction of head-office control for quite a while already. The employees take the brunt of the customer beefs and they can't change policy but get blamed for it.

Customers are only loyal to a business that responds to their needs and provides them at the right price, quality and especially with the right attitude.
