Producer Cars

Some tips about producer cars, order them yourself, its a one sheet form. Do not load them overweight, and be sure to fax in the rail car release form when you are finished loading. Make sure the manual brake (big wheel on the end of car)is on when loading. Otherwise its just a grain bin on wheels. I am sure a farmer can figure out how to load it.

I am not against line companies, if you are going to load rail cars and they are buying the grain, you order the rail car. If they do it, it will take months. They have to compete with all the other line companies and specialy processors. It can take months for them to get you a rail car. Eventually a producer gets frustrated and impatient, then he says screw it.

We have sold durum in producer cars for 3 years now. we are out of tHE traditional growing area and elevators around here dont take it, so only option is going south with it ( to Moose Jaw or farther and even this year the best grade we could get was a 4. But through Mission Terminal at thunder bay we got a 3 for most and a 2 for the rest. It has worked well for us and mission is very fair to deal with. We did 20 cars this winter (4 at a time) but we have part ownership of the old pool elevator in town so we always haul it a week or 2 befor their authorized to come.
and its on cn main line which probably helps with the deliveery schedule

maybe with the CWB gone we producer car loaders will get paid faster, like we did before the CWB stuck their nose into it.

4 to 6 weeks in this day and age of fax machines and computers is total nonsense.
