To be in Rural Saskatchewan during an election year.

http://www.globalregina.com/Sask Crop Insurance workers vote favour strike action/4857244/story.html

Workers at the Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation (SCIC) have voted 86 per cent in favour of strike action to back their contract demands with the government.

The Saskatchewan Government and General Employees’ Union (SGEU) held the strike vote at 21 locations around the province from May 11-20.

“This clearly shows the dissatisfaction with the government’s wage mandate of 5.5 per cent over three years,” said Alan Evans, Co-chair of the Negotiating Committee.

SGEU President Bob Bymoen says they are seeking a similar increase as that given to workers at Information Services Corporation.

“They are worth just as much as Information Services Corporation employees and there is no reason why they shouldn’t be receiving a similar settlement of 7.75 per cent over three years.”

The majority of SCIC workers are farmers and rural people directly related to the agriculture industry.

SGEU represents around 520 members who work in the Agristability and Production Insurance programs.

They have been without a contract since September 2009.

the weather wreck this year is going to put sask govt into a bind just with road and infrastructure damage. lucky for grainfarmers it's an election year so they might squeeze out some extra welfare.

When does the time come when a government decides "you know thats just costing too much" and starts looking at alternatives?
Wouldn't you do that in your own business or household?
Maybe put CI out for tender...who knows maybe Mutual of Omaha would like to take a run at it?
As far as Canada Post: they are rapidly pricing themselves into oblivion. The service is poor and alternatives are growing every year.
I can understand how employees feel they need a raise to keep up with inflation, but there comes a time when the customer has had enough! In the business world these "government corporations" would have been long gone?
