Ukraine Workers and finding your Roots

My brother has travelled extensively in the Ukraine. He initially went over as a election monitor during the Orange revolution and twice since then. He has established a company that sources newer farm equipment that he sends over there for resale. In his experience you have to be a Ukrainian citizen or married to one to be able to buy farm land. The areas he travelled there were a lot of huge farms up to 250000 acres. The land is unbelieveable going south from Kiev to the Black Sea table top level and black as coal for six hours. Stalin had workers plant a single row of trees around 2500 hectars plots. If and when they get political house in order they will become an agricultural power. They have all the right things land and climate. U-tube "Harvest Ukraine" to get an idea of the crops they grow.

Last story I heard not sure if true or not. Likely not true. there are big farms but they rent from 2 acre land lords in other words if you farm 100,000 acres you would have 50,000 land lords, hmm is that a true or a false???

      UKRAINIAN AGRICULTURE MINISTER HOPES
MORATORIUM ON SALE OF FARMLAND CANCELLED
      STARTING JANUARY 1, 2011

      Ukrainian Agriculture Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk
has expressed hope that a moratorium on sale and
purchase of farmland would be cancelled from
January 1,2011. "I'd be glad if free trade is
introduced from January 1,2011. Everybody is
waiting for the cancellation of the
moratorium, starting from farmers and ending with
investors," he said in an interview with the
Kontrakty weekly published on May 31.

He said that laws on land cadastre and land market
should be adopted,so that the moratorium could be
cancelled. "We'll complete work on the draft laws
this year, and they would be submitted to the
      parliament in autumn," he said.

He said that the change of farmland to non-
agricultural land should be banned for at least ten
years. He added that the state should create its own
land bank of 4 million hectares and lease land for
long periods of time. The minister supports
restrictions on the size of owned farmland.

"Discussion on the maximum size of land plot for
one company are being held. The realistic limit
being discussed is 10,000 hectares. However, there
are proposals for 50,000 and 100,000 hectares," he
said. The state would look for a compromise with
      those companies,which control over 100,000-
      200,000 hectares, he said.

I think it would be a good investment to purchase
some real estate in Ukraine now in the Carpathion
        mountains

        Reasons to Buy in Ukraine

        - NO Capital Gains Tax on apartments (first
property) - Rebound in economy forecast (World
        Bank)
        - Tiny 1% Inheritance tax - High Capital Growth
        - NO restrictions for foreign ownership on
residential property - Minimal purchasing costs
        - Low cost Non EU country - Europe’s biggest
        country with huge natural resources.

they are crazy, the state should keep the freehold, and just sell long leases. as canada, aus, nz used to be.
