BTOFarmall.... Some pics for you... And anyone who wants to see crops... grown on "shitty" land.

I started snapping pictures in the '08 crop year... So, this is roughly 3 years of what we've been doing on supposedly "$400/ac", "hay and cow land"...

2008

Timothy[seed production field, cut for hay that year]
    up our operation.

Ohhh.... and yes, we can grow good hay crops... '09 alfalfa for silage.

SWEEEEEEET!! I love the older equipment. Those 860's could thrash a pile of grain. Far more credible in my narrow/small brain view than 4 new of everything 12 men and the boss/manager driving around in a new 3/4 ton diesel pickup with a cell phone to his ear! No offense to anybody, Im just stuck in the mid '80s. I realize most guys are working at making the best living possible.

Just notice the flag sitting behind muffer, wouldn't be better sitting somewhere auger or cab, just thought, any flag get burn by muffer.I has those similiar combine like ur, still running also has similiar baler like ur but newer like 814. And only thing differ is tractor is 6 cyl and ur V8. All red so flag. Nice pix. Nice green alfafa swath for silage, sometime if older alfalfa it is better to do silage cuz of courser stem that cows won't eat so chop them up which is better.

Beautiful scenery, makes me awful lonesome for a little green grass already!

And your machinery is the same vintage as mine.

Thanks for posting and I hope next year brings you the right weather.

Klaus very good pictures and yes Small operator is compensating for his inadequacies. Grain is grown in NE and N in very large quantities on land the professional farmers think wont make a buck.

I sprayed some grass with roundup last year and was doing some more alfalfa again this year. If I direct seed what fertilizer should I put down?Had some land with problems so I seeded to grass and now I think it is ready to grow grain again. Realy like your rotation..

Heart of the Parkland of Manitoba... roughly 30 minutes NW of Dauphin, Manitoba.

Thanks I work with what I have... I'd like to grow my land base into one of the "Professional" areas, and run new equipment... that's my goal, it's going to take hard
                  work, but we'll get there.

It looks like it, but it isn't. That flag is mounted to the inside ledge of the cab, just behind where the radio antenna is.

                  Thanks

Yes... I cant' wait for the green to return... this drab, grey/white scenery can get depressing... luckily the oil patch work makes winters go fast.

I hope that the weather smartens up for all of us for 2011. Looks like there's a pile of money to make if the weather holds out.

                  Thanks

Uhh.... Thanks? I think? Proper management, and you can grow good grain crops... Just have to quit summerfallowing, and quit growing oats-oats-oats which is what all
                  my neighbours do.

Best return $/ac is RR canola. 2L/ac of 460g gly in fall, 1.5L/ac in spring, seed canola with 85-25-0-15... top dress with another 15lbs/ac of S if weather & stand are
favourable just before bolting.... have done it a few times, always been happy with the results... The two apps of 0.33l/ac of gly will keep any grass that's left from
                  coming back.

                      Yes.... I did.

                      I learnt to work cheaply.

For instance... my trucking costs: $0...

If you think the only way to attain good yields on "shitty" land is by pumping fertilizer to it, you
                      really are a poor farmer.

Why is the land poor? -> Correct main issues -> Not able to correct? Manage said issues.

application timing / micronutrients / soil PH / compaction / amount of OM... balance all those
and you grow good crops anywhere.

Nice pictures Klause.. my father used to have a cousin who farmed east of you in the Fork River area. Used to amaze me cause he had a flowing well in the middle of the farm yard. His farm was on the edge of the Mossy River.

How close are you to Swan Plain? We farmed some land up there in the 80's. Back then round up was 40 dollars an acre.Land up there was very cheap and had people stopping by asking if we wanted more. Times have sure changed in the NE sask and NW Manitoba.
