What causes second growth in wheat

I've got one field with lots of second growth. What are some of the potential causes? Sure makes preharvest timing fun. Thanks for any ideas.

fix it with glyphosate before they get big enough to wreck your sample.

20 inches here and no second growth. Depending on how green she is, not much ripening going to happen anymore. So chances if she is much green spray it or cut it.

Hail damage usually causes plants to try for more seed, seen that. If dry stressed, and it rains in July, we always get second growth. This year, every track from equipment is green due to early thin poor growth from compaction. In 2002 all the fields went from ripe to new green heads in a few weeks after August rains. Sprayed all out in Sept, combined 15 bu barley at 40lbs.
