What air drill works best in mud???

What is working in the mud and what is not?

I noticed around here the disk drills were not working
to good in the wet conditions in the heavy clay. The
hoe drills were seeding 1.5 to 2 days ahead of the
disc drills around here after it rained. 1.5 to 2 days
sooner after most rains we had made a big difference
on the acres that could get seeded between rains.

JAG-our Khart disc drill was excellent this spring, it allowed us to get in the field, we felt, a day or so earlier then hoe drills.

We were not as happy last spring, but not sure it was the drills fault, probaly should not have been seeding due to zippo moisture.

We use the techno-til. It packs the seed not the surface so we can go even if it is quite wet.

techno-tills worked very well here rain or shine. We use an old out dated b/g 8810 with liguid. But it can seed in very wet dirt and in the rain if we have to. No dry fert to wory about plugging runs-hooses. No over packing, ever - k-hart packers. Just the odd wheel track in and around sloughs. Also costs less than 1/2 of the new air drills. And uses 1/2-2/3rds the hp/ft. Funny thing is we were laughed at - poors mans air drill, much like the techno-tills.

The JD disk openers where having trouble in our area.
A farmer right beside us had to get some of his crop
custom seeded as his disc drill was not working in the
heavy clay. The clay would stick to the discs and then
the seed would stick to the clay. He got some
sc****rs but I do not think that solved the problem
completely. There was a couple of other JD disc drills
in the area that were having the same trouble.

Around here, the seed hawks are working well. As far as that disc drill, well,...its just another Deere.

We do not have that problem here very often that it is
too wet to seed. Most of the time it is too dry. Most of
the seeding is wrapped up here now.

With the amount of rain we have received this yr..There was NO need for any kind of a packer wheel...

This is the first year I wish I had a hoe drill. As a rule with the JD1895, I am on the land sooner. But when its wet, the furrow doesn't close properly, and the mud can cause skidding. But I have never seen it this wet.

Spinning going down the hill indicates one should not be seeding.
