I may try this, though it has a fair bit of risk. I did plane seeding in 2007, and if the summer turns out wet too, it seems the canola sucks due to low oxygen soil. Had that year dryed up some, I think it had been alright. I think if it gets dry nuff to harrow, I may try blowing it on with the seeder, at least that way you can get some nutrients on unlike with the plane... I have 1 field I'm sure I'll seed conventionally, its high land and was hayland, sprayed out in fall. Its firmish relatively speaking. I just need a few days to get on it. Was gonna be oats, but may switch to canola now.

Hey freewheet we have guys that could fall into a pail of ship and come out smelling like a rose or at least they tell you they did. Years of seeing farm financial statements I know most farms unless its inheritance, oil, Gas, potash etc are just squeaking out a living. Now buying low to obscene low and watching ones expenses does go along way. Floating on canola and fert if the truck will get on field and stay floating go do it. Harrow it and yes it will give you a surprise. One thing we can always count on in north east is rain and rain does help a screwed up seeding operation (to shallow to deep etc) most years.

Dont waste you time air plane or floating on canola Ive done it twice and results were poor and it wasnt $60.00 for seed. If the field is pre worked with fertilizer appied then go to it but it should be harrowed to get enough seed to soil contact. Dont expect more than 20bus/ac. If that is making you money go at it.
