Something to Consider with Cheap Pursuit

Guys like SF3 who are replacing Odyssey with cheap Pursuit should consider the following:

Odyssey is 35% imazamox and 35% imaxethapyr.

Solo is 70% imazamox (safer in the brown soil zone as imazamox has half the half life of imazethapyr in the soil).

    Pursuit is 100% imazethapyr

So you are on the complete other end of the spectrum from Solo and only half-way to Odyssey.

In my opinion, you are playing with dynamite in the brown soil zone or even the dark brown with anything close to 33% rate Pursuit.

We have seen damage on cereals from 40 acres rate Odyssey the prior year that many others have slo seen. That is why some farmers are switching to Solo. If you run this risk with Odyssey, what is the risk with Pursuit? What are the long-term effects of this chemical in the lighter to medium soil?

There is a reason this product is not registered in the brown soil zone.

You would think after years of being on here most know I farm NE Sask its Black Soil. This has worked since pursuit came out, I may be cheap but I know what works and has on 1000 acres a year with very good results. Sorry your getting screwed by the company why the shortage of pursuit. HM Makes me wonder.

Cottenpicken had it right on his first post. This thread is about patents and control. HEck 20% pursuit with Assure is almost as good as Odyssey. 1/2 rate in the fall is the safest way (and best for weed control to use the stuff, re recropping options and you get control of your winter annuals with the same pass.

If Odyssey is 35 percent rate of Pursuit, and Odyssey is registered, can 33% pursuit with assure be any worse? The powers that be have not pulled Odyssey off the shelves, so i wonder. I know in dry spring it is worse, but lots and lots of factors in this discussion.

Frankly, if you are growing non-imi tolerant lentils, what are your choices? It is this or nothing as Sencor is also not registered for the brown or Dark Brown soil zone either (min 4% Organic matter according to label, but that never came up when it was being sold). 15% pursuit is better then Sencor for weed control.

The thread is about things to consider when using Pursuit. Read the topic. Get your facts straight. 35% Pursuit is not Odyssey. Odyssey had 2 ingredients, Pursuit has one. That is my point.

I am not making any point about patents, control or politics. Simply giving my opinion based on my farming experiences.

From what I understand, Dave441, you are not even a farmer. Have you seen damaged cereals crops from carry-over of Odyssey or Pursuit?

SF3, didn't realize you were in the Black Soil Zone. You a right, it's probably a good fit for you.

However, lot's of farmers in the brown soil zone, where I farm, are running the border getting cheap Pursuit. My caution goes out to them.

I banned the use of Pursuit on my farm years ago, so I don't really care if there is a shortage or not. I talked to BASF today and it looks like there is going to be a major price adjustment next year across the board for these types of products.

I am in brown soil zone (dark) OM anywhere from 3 to 4%. I've been using 1/3 rate pursuit tank mix with select/poast for 4 years on peas. My rotation up to now has been peas-durum-LL canola-cereal. Never any issues on any canola, or cereal. You can bet I'm running to the border for cheap pursuit. I can't pass up saving $12.00/ac. In addition I have never been happy with odyssey's performance on wild oats, which is why i switched in the first place.

I have used Pursuit, personally, on my own production, on my own acres, since about 1998. I have lots of experience with carryover issues and imi. That is why we switched to fall applications in part.
