Were white at farm this morning and drews forecast doesn't look like a good week till sat. Hm well at least can fix the new air drill. HA HA HA. Some pre service. I digress. Any way who else have snow.
One note One Earth and Viagra have a partnership they built bins on Viagra Ituna site and I think Raymore. Then hauled all production in off combine. Did you last fall ask your elevator if they bent over for you. Or did they bend you over.

Looks like the bigger guys are now gitting the special deals that are out there! To bad, so sad, boohoo, whine and snivel, its the Comedian Farmer way of doin tings. If'n I was gettin the special deal, it would be a good thing though!

Dozens of hopper bins in Wadena. Is that who they are for? Bigger must be better!
2" of white slop also, 4" in Wadena. Too wet to even quad in the field. Another week written off. At least the 2.5" rain in forecast is gone!

Just 5 minutes ago I got off the phone with an irate ratepayer. He farms more acres than he can handle and is trying to fertilize. Last week we had two and a half inches of rain. On Sunday we had four inches of snow. Today it has been snowing all day. The ground in saturated, the roads are a mess and he is wild at the R.M. for not providing access. Did I mention that this is a side road that nobody lives on and isn't even open in the winter. I think these situations will become more common in the future as farms get ever bigger and panic sets in as soon as the weather doesn't co-operate.

What specifically is he looking to access - a stuck tractor?

There is a way out of this that any farmer should accept. It's called a road maintenance agreement. Your RM should not be trying to prevent commerce. If it was a herd of cattle that needed to be fed down that non maintained road, would you accommodate him? If he damages the road, he should be billed to repair it. These agreements are signed all the time in our RM with oil company ratepayers. Present it to this farmer, and stop being a control freak, if that's what you're doing.

In the R.M. in question road maintenance agreements are signed all the time with the gravel industry. Gravel pits are assessed very low and pay a pittence in taxes yet can generate a huge amount of money for the owner. Also gravel is generally trucked out over a limited number of roads and could do excessive damage to those roads. Farmland on the other hand is assessed acording to production. The more production, the more taxes for the R.M. So farmers pay their share. The problem is that many if not all R.M.'s have some roads that are litterally "cow trails" that people would stay off if the conditions dictated so. Now "Ol Macdonald" has turned into "Corporation Sky's the Limit" and the R.M. can't build up the roads fast enough.

The first truth is that RMs can't look after its ratepayers, and they won't allow them to look after themselves.

The second truth is that RMs put the road bans on, but the farmers take them off.
