The turn-out was ok considering the weather and all and yes the parking lot was a mud bog. I can't remember Hodgins having nice weather for their spring consignment sale since Mr. Hodgings has passed on.
I joined 4-5 farmers talking about the sale and how things were selling at the different sales this spring. Their discussion or concern was on some of the later model equipment and how after a couple of years of use this equipment is selling for 50-150 thousand less than purchase price. Thus making for some high dollar per hour use. The discussion or question was, how can those operators or farmers afford the deprecation cost of this equipment,and why is the deprecation so much?

Those that can or need big new machinery, trade and the 2-5 year old trade ins must have a smaller market, therefore are discounted big time. That depreciation will look bad on any farm's books. There are a lot of near new used combines at all dealers. Market softens and that means big losses also for dealers. Some of these pieces are at auctions to get cash to survive.
