I always thought it was a bit opposite of that. Heifers tend to be a bit smaller/lighter so they’re done cooking sooner.

    Either way, same idea though.

I do need a calf actually, WiltonRanch, but I don’t think you’re conveniently close to me. Darn 😂

First one of the year here. Hauled the bred heifers home today and the cows will be walked home tomorrow. Always get one as reminder to get on with things and bring them home.
Very impressed with how the bred heifers turned out. Probably the nicest and mellowest bunch we’ve had.

Wind has been strong all day with three inches of wet snow tonight. Hopefully nobody else pops out till the sun returns late tomorrow. 🍀

Nice looking bunch. Front pasture worthy.
They don't look like they will be worried about getting fed.

They did really good on the corn grazing........... maybe a touch too good.😉

First calf out of the heifers arrived on his own yesterday and all was good except to break the wax on the teats. Hopefully the rest go smoothly too. Just getting them used to getting checked with the quad. Lack of sleep to kick in shortly. At least there’s no mud unlike the last quite a few years..........🍀

I always tried to get them as fat as possible with the feed resources I had but rarely apologized for getting them too fat.
Great to have that reserve on their back for when you need it.
To a cattle guy fat is the prettiest color?

I have a heifer that was supposed to be on her first calf this year G101 ...for whatever reason she had her first calf on May 30 2020 at 15 months of age and just had her second on April 12 2021. She had to have been bred the first time at like 4 months of age and hit on her first cycle after her first calf to back her up a month and a half...

              Crazy.

              BTW , woodland....deeelicious looking pictures!!!!!

Bucket........... what breed was this heifer of yours? I imagine an exotic......... Our blacks have only gotten calves bred on years where we moved the calving back a month or so. The last time it happened we had three bred calves and they all turned out fine. I think they became some of the best cows we had as they got slightly stunted but still had the full size genetics in them. Always like seeing a little 1100 lb cow leading a 600 lb calf home in the fall.

BTW Bucket .............. I don’t know what a “normal” critter of ours tastes like.😉 We only eat the ones we would have to give away at a sale like broken leg, cripple, prolapse, bug eye, etc...... Running low on hamburger and there’s a lame bull that’s been testing my patience lately................ mmmmmm meatballs 😎
