“It goes into the government’s coffers, but it’s then up to the government to decide, working with industry. Can something be done that’s trade-compliant? It’s hard to flow that money back through without it being seen as a subsidy, but there are ways it can be addressed,†said Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz, speaking in Saskatoon on Monday. “There’s a lot of work being done with not farrowing in crates and maybe there are things government can do. We’ll look at all of that, should the time arise.â€
Farrowing crates?? That's the best he can come up with?
How about tossing a few billion into paying up on the class action? Not countervailable. Morally responsible. Common sense.
