    Busy Stephen!

Rather than stay home and deal with Canadian problems Stephen Harper is busy playing the big shot over in the Congo, passing out $18.5 Million Dollars of taxpayers money!
All for a good cause of course....bring those backward colored types up to snuff on democratic principles and the rule of law!
Maybe while he's there he can recruit a few more slaves for the Alberta meat packing industry?
$18.5 Million! WOW....maybe we could use some of that money to bring our meat inspection up to speed....so we aren't poisoning our citizens!
The Conservative government is right on top of cutting government spending here in Canada......not so good at it when Harper wants to play the big white B'wana over in Africa!

Why? the ag vote or those interested in the XL debacle
likely would be insignificant in a federal vote held
tomorrow - lets face it we are insignificant in the
      grand scheme of things.

If there was an election coming up, something would be done. There may not be many of us, but there are lots of consumers.

It is unfortunate that after this gong show is swept under the rug, nothing much will change? It will be business as usual.
It sounds like XL was kind of a pig pen and the XL management deserves to be kicked in the butt for that, however the question needs to be asked: Why did the regulator (CFIA) allow XL to operate in that manner? Just what was the CFIA plant staff thinking? Was the head vet asleep or something?
Is the whole inspection system a screw up or was the inspection management negligent or corrupt?
We need a public inquiry to find out what went wrong so we will see the same thing happening 6 months down the road....at this plant or another one!
No one from the CFIA is being held accountable for dropping the ball. Gerry Ritz is the "big boss" and should be ultimately responsible. He dropped the ball on the listeria wreck and he's dropped it again....how many more screw ups will he be responsible for in the future? This guy should have been gone yesterday!
As Nilssons, Ritz, the CFIA, and the union all run around trying to blame each other, the ones taking the major hit are the farmers and ranchers watching their business go in the tank. Their so-called "cattle organizations" don't do much except blather about "best beef in the world", because they dare not antagonize their masters and heros in the Conservative Party! If they really represented cattlemen they'd be screaming for someones head!
