Too many RFID tags likely fail because they are put in in a hurry, and because of the cost, the applier is angry, and piss-off at CCIA, and don't take the time to put them in properly. Face it, traceability is here to stay (thank the Government for that)they listened to "all the consumers" that "DEMANDED" it. Yeah right!

When "the powers to be" sitting in their ideological desks launch this whole ANIMAL ID and traceability using this great RFID eartag system that we are struggling with today did they realize what was being created down at the ranch level??
1)The RFID eartag was supposed to stay in place in the ear.
Now within a few years the concept of constant retagging is taking place in Adult animals. Last year the Saskatchewan Provincial Ag Minister made the announcement that there is $25,000.00 now going into funding to find out WHY these RFID eartags do not work.
PAMI from Humboldt reported on Agriville that the original trials were for 99% retention for only 90 days and a tag was passed for SALE and use in Canada. This is the parameters of the short use FEEDLOT TAG.
Now with all this tagging and now re-tagging in SOME of our Canadian Cowherds and especially for those of us that use "PASTURES of INTERMINGLING" a animal welfare situation has now been identified with support evidence and data to back this up.
The CFIA veterinarians know this situation very well.
Check the Canadian Agriculture Review Tribunal and you will notice that there is now 0 fines being levied by CFIA veterinarians regarding RFID eartag useage.
Cattlemen in this area know and there are many that are as pissed off at the Traceability System DOG AND PONY SHOW as I am. Another fine to the right person and ANIMAL WELFARE will reach the media very quickly.
Keep this gong show going and it will happen.
The most important EARTAG or animal ID on my operation is the ID EARTAG not any other tag.
NOW WITH THE FINDING "FOR ME" THE BRISKET TAG that carries some hope "FOR ME" I am relieved that I at least have moved my concern off the bovine ear and on another part of the animals body.
Going forward there is more and more "negative evidence" on this Canadian System of Animal ID and animal tracking that it cannot physically be achieved with the "tools that are available today" for us to use.
