    In complete contrast

In contrast to the Nilsson/XL debacle I dropped off
my first load of fats at my butcher today (YB Quality
Meat, Penhold) As mine is a seasonal business I
hadn't been there since Christmas but another round
of improvements and upgrades has taken place since
I was last there. Modifications to the already adequate
handling facilities with a complete rebuild of them
planned to make animal flow easier and reduce stress
among other things. Just an excellent small family
run Provincial plant. Thank goodness we have
operators like this who know the meat business,
know the processing sector and take a pride in
running a high quality operation. Thank goodness
this Swiss immigrant family chose to be in the
butcher business in Alberta. They are also partners in
the Canadian Premium Meats federal inspected plant
at Lacombe, the only successful start up plant in
Canada since BSE that I'm aware of.
My beef customers can rest assured that their beef is
getting processed in a high quality facility.

GF - nice story to hear. Our beef that
we market is processed in a clean,
    provincially inspected facility that is
also continually being upgraded with a
    multi-generational butchering family
that we have been doing business with
for over 50 years. In fact the current
operator's dad bought my first 4-H calf
many moons ago. I wouldn't want to eat
off their floors, but I am sure you
    could without getting sick.

We've got a plant like that here too. We're very grateful that we do. Haven't cooked any beef that wasn't processed there in the past 30 years.

Good on ya. This is exactly what the beef
industry needs, good family run, local
yokel shops. Let the big city folks
          consume the processed crap........
