    Wondering about calf prices?

Our hometown association sales barn is having it's first internet sale on the 29th. It's through Cattle in Motion.

Our prices are a good indicator of Manitoba prices, and in some cases, Southern Ontario prices.

Sale usually starts 9 to 9:30am and will go Cull Bulls, Cull Cows, Calves and then finishing with yearlings.

With the local feed situation being that it is, I would expect about 1600-1800 head on offer, maybe more. Rough guess would be 100 cows, 20 bulls, 1200 calves and a few hundred yearlings.

If our last sale was any indication on the calves, we should see the low 5-weights in the $900.00 range.

Cows are off close to 10 cents a pound here. Could be XL is shut down for a cleanup??? The age verifieds aren't as bad, likely because they usually go south. But they're going south without much competition bidding on them, so at a lower price than they should be.

The joys of having no competition for fats............ the beef recall is getting bigger and bigger every day.
