So how is the harvest going up there in the great white north. I hear its real dry? Are any cattle moving out yet, and by the way how much does it cost you for a liner of cattle to say ponoka or westlock, must be pretty costly.
I always liked your neck of the woods but the markets are too far away . I finished combining today my bly made about 50 but havnt had a weight yet but I hear 44# most samples tested. I wonder how the feeders will like those weights? Lots of buckwheat mabey I should sell that instead of bly.

I noticed that. Speaking about terrorist anyone have a words of wisdom for a fool trying to bale up short wheat straw?...its not rotary was just a very short crop. I have tried everything that I know of...just heading out right now to see if a little humidity will make it roll up better and if that dont work I think the white flag may come out or the match.

Tweaker. I know what your talking about been
their done that. Yes humidity can help allot....one
fought for every bale during the day (JD 530) then
baled 12 mph same field with no problems. Try
running the baler at 1500 rpm to get bale started.
Likely you tried already but the swath hold down
rack (wind guard fingers) should be taken out so
it's more open throat. I bought a JD 567 similar
pick up to a NH 660 the little knife feeder works
miracles. Very happy with my 567 performance.

Horse ya we had a dry year for sure. With Hwy
88 (slave lake to fort vermillion) being nearly all
paved that is going to cut our trucking from 8 to
9.5 hours (depending if ferry or ice bridge is in) to
very soon 6 hours to Westlock. With triple j being
sold and their one field man (trapper) going to
Panoka VJV some guys are talking about trying
        that mart.

From slake lake thru Red earth to High level you
save 40kms as opposed to slave lake thru peace
river to High Lever so all the highway trucks
running into the territories will very likely go that
way with the now paved 88. Towns like Manning
and Nampa and High Prairie will notice fewer
trucks. The company I am trucking for this fall has
mostly tri drive trucks burning 900L/day yikes

Horse did you hear about the peat moss plow the
Hutterites at sunny bend have? The clipped a
pipe line with it once? It's for deep plowing peat
soils and bringing up a mineral layer on top. Well I
mentioned the plow to a guy up here and his rich
uncle went and rented it from the hutts. It broke
but the idea was good so he had a bigger way
longer 2 bottom plow built. He bought something
like 6 or so peat soil bush quarters at the land
auctions. He took one of his hoe's to dig a trench
for the plows first pass. The first moldboard puts
the sticks and stumps into the trench then the
second puts peat and mineral soil on top of
that....no root picking, piling, burning . He has a
485 quad trac pulling it with a D5 on the front but I
heard that wouldnt work to good so I assume he
used one of his D7 or D8's. From the road it looks
          all done anyway.

Well all went better this am, a little humidity helped alot...also a lot less rpm...like 1100, thought the tractor was going to die but we made it and then off to some oat straw combined with a old MF 860 like day and night...nice long straw and easy to bale and much faster..LOL. Done for the year...baling anyways.

We had a great year down near Vulcan for crop
dusting. Most of our clients managed to dodge the
hail. One of my photography clients (and also a
spraying client of my hubby) had incredible yields on
the canola near Mossleigh and said that the extra inch
of rain in July he had just boosted it.

That being said, my dad said up near my hometown
of Lloydminster saw crops worse off than what was to
                be expected.
