Is ALMA worth the money?

The Alberta Livestock and Meat Agency (ALMA) costs Alberta a fair bit of money?
In the past Alberta election campaign, the Alberta Beef Producers seemed to get quite upset when it was suggested by opposition parties that ALMA was little more than an "old boys club" that achieved little, other than a few sweet heart per diem deals for government pals?
So the question is: Can we save some serious cash by eliminating it......or will Alberta cattlemen starve to death without ALMA? How are Saskatchewan and Manitoba ranchers surviving without the likes of ALMA?

Alma has evolved somewhat away from an MLA
type of model and more into a research and
development funding type of organization.
It will be interesting to continue
watching.

Care must be taken not to become dependent upon government and corporate "funding" to support any ideas.... The hand that feeds you will some day threaten to smack you... and you will be expected to suck it up and take it or lose your funding.... Better to be independently funded.
