    George Morris Centre EDP

The GMC has announced it's latest
    Executive Development Program. It is
basically a high speed MBA program for
business that occurs over 4 weekends in
the year. The program tours some
    amazing agricultural operations across
the county and covers everything from
    vision/mission, human resources, to
financing, to marketing, etc. The web
    address is
    http://georgemorris.org/GMC/Education.as
    px?lID=8
They also offer a CTEAM program that is
    more farm focused.
I participated in EDP a few years ago
and it has transformed every business
that I work in, including the farm.
There are a lot of really fantastic
    agri-businesses in Canada.

It seems a bit pricey to me at $7000 plus air fare and hotels. The cost will easily be over $10,000 or $625 per day.

How did it transform every business you have been involved in?

Basically it covered all the things I
should have learned in school, that
        school's don't generally teach about
        business.
From a farm perspective the biggest
thing it did was focus us on our farm
        business, establishing a vision/mission
and figuring out how to enable/enact
        that. It covered financing, financials,
        human resources, marketing,
        differentiation, ag and trade policy,
and the most informative part was the
people who took the course, and the
operations that were toured all the way
from production to retail from coast to
        coast.
When I took it there were some funding
        programs available to help.
C-team is more farm focused and covers a
lot of the same stuff, but is spaced
over 2 years and has an added section on
        succession planning and implementation.
I also run a couple of other ventures so
the training has been definitely cross
platform, but since I chose the farm as
my project for the course, it got a lot
of attention and moved ahead by leaps
        and bounds.

When someone says they changed what they were doing in a manner that saw their farm go ahead in leaps and bounds it gets my attention. What did you do, get a second off farm job?
