    early spring

Driving from south of Rosetown all the way North west of Kerrobert into Alta no snow anywhere, no sloughs or running water and no green yet.

Hope them fogs pay off in due time.

Well here in mid-Western Ontario, we had very little snow all winter, 1 foot at the most, and it all disappeared last week.

On Friday, after one week of very warm, sunny weather, there were a few guys who sowed spring cereals.

Some are chiseling and I got fertilizer on the hay ground.

    Too dry for March, really.

Creeks are open here in west central AB.
Geese going over in the mornings, and very
little snow left. I have never seen it this
dry in the spring, so hopefully we do get
warm rains in April. We are getting a few
snow flurries but only enough to get the
      bedding wet !!!

For sure coppertop. More snow between Res Deer and Olds than anywhere. And that isn't saying much.

no snow, no ice, no water. They started
on our new basement today and there wasn't
even frost in the ground (because frost
          would require moisture).
Hopefully the 90 day rule for fog
          applies...

Nice to know that there are farmers rich
enough to build a new house !!!!! Good luck
with yours, hope the construction goes
well. You can bet it will pour before you
            get the roof on !!

I guess we are again fortunate in our little corner of the world with a nice slow thaw happening. Probably only 30% or less of the ground bare where the cows haven't been. Anything that is cow tracked is baring off quicker. I was surprised at how much frost there seems to be in the ground here - I thought it would have been too dry to freeze last fall. The small dugouts and potholes we have are full of water already although I expect once the frost comes out the water might disappear straight down.

CT - Should have dug it 6 months ago as
it is snowing this morning. The
                trackhoe operator didn't need the
toothed bucket. He said it was frozen a
long way down, but was so dry that the
                dirt was just powder.
The house is more a function of the fact
that it is impossible to live 25 miles
away and manage a cowherd and a happy
marriage at the same time. It is also
not my money (although I suspect my
lender does want it back...Go Figure)

Rich in the things that matter,

                Sean

We set up bales for geese to nest just south of our
house, so we can watch the whole deal and see the
little babies as they jump down and waddle off to
the nearest dugout. (quite a procedure for the
parents to get them to jump over 10 feet down)!

Seems this years mother goose has just laid her
first egg March 26, and is settling in for the next
month. They seem to hatch out like clockwork.
This is a good sign of spring. But, I know that
there is usually a blizzard around the 20 - 24th of
April, same time as the Consort Jamboree (old time
music). We could still get a big hit of snow.

If all the fog over the winter is any
indicator we should get rains in April, or
maybe a snow in May !!!
