    Settler Gold Software

Has anyone had the problem of losing information from the Settler Gold version five when you had backed it up continuously? End of period GST had been done as everything was up to date. Went in next day to continue with accounts and two months was gone. Rang Settler with no helpful solution or answers. Anyone out there got an answer? We were told that we had put it on another disk and restored an old outdated one. This was not the case as only one disk was used.

Further to your phone conversations with Settler Support, the scenario that may have resulted in your loss of data is probably the following. The "Save Snapshot" feature (available in GOLD to save a snapshot of your data at a specific time) was used in the program on the day in question. Information was entered since the snapshot was taken and regular backups were made (but all on the same diskette). On the day that you processed your quarterly GST, it appears you inadvertently selected and confirmed the "Revert to Snapshot" feature which copied the (older) saved version of your data over your current database (losing two months worth of data). Not realizing that the "Revert to Snapshot" feature had been used, when you made your regular backup after this session, you actually were backing up this older data - and not your recent entry. Upon realizing that you were missing information in your program, you attempted to restore from your backup disk to recover the missing information. Unfortunately, this backup disk now reflects the same previously dated information; and because you only used 1 backup disk, you have no other backup to work with.

To ensure your data is protected, we recommend using three backup disks in rotation. By backing up onto a different disk each day you will have three different backups that are only one transaction entry session apart. This will substantially reduce the chance of accidental corruption of data or data loss. It will also provide additional recent backups should one of the disks fail.

We also recommend that if you are unsure of a program feature, to read your user manual, or press <F1> for Help while in the program, or contact the Settler Call Centre at 1-800-667-7893.
