June 29 - Statistic Canada and USDA 2001 Acreage Estimate Day

Just a note to be on alert tomorrow. Both Statistics Canada and the United States Department of Agriculture will be releasing 2001 acreage estimates. USDA will also be releasing a June 1 grain stocks estimate.

The CWB will also be releasing their monthly pool return outlook for the 2001/02 crop year.

I will put some comments in on these reports this weekend.

Rather than trying to input I'll give you the web site.

The major change was a 1.6 mln acre reduction in summerfallow - back in line with recent trends. Wheat and canola acreage increases offset most of the summerfallow decline - not surprising. Declines in barley acreage and increases in lentils/chickpeas were the biggest surprises. I will leave for others reactions.

      Charlie,

I really believe this is an inaccurate Stats Can report!

Farmers are mad about the May census, and dry conditions that caused reseeding etc, make me think this is way out!

But I have been wrong before!
