"WTO Deal is Near -- World Trade Organization Director General Pascal Lamy says negotiators are close to securing a final deal on agriculture. Speaking at the Cairns Group Ministerial Meeting, Lamy said a sufficient level of clarity has been reached in the three pillars for agricultural trade reform; domestic subsidies, export subsidies and market access. Meanwhile, the 19 members of the Cairns Group said they are willing to cut tariffs, open sensitive markets and phase out export subsidies to secure a trade deal."

"R-CALF USA Remains Embroiled in Controversy -- R-CALF USA remains embroiled in controversy. In February, R-CALF President Chuck Kiker was removed from office and replaced by Max Thornsberry. After that, key board members and staff resigned. An anonymous website, www.swifthorses.com has detailed R-CALF's internal commotion. Not wanting to rely on second hand information, the North Dakota Stockmen's Association wrote R-CALF with a variety of questions. "We've had questions for several years about their finances; where the money is coming from; where it is being spent and the audits they provided us were not very clear," said Executive Vice President Wade Moser, "When all this blew up in the past 30 to 60 days, our boad decided to ask some quesitons, since we're one of the original R-CALF affiliates; it has been over a month since we asked those questions and we still have not seen a response." Moser said the internal strife within R-CALF has put its credibility into question."
