KVOA.com: Maricopa Man Guilty In Bogus Mad Cow Testing Case

PHOENIX -- A Maricopa man has pleaded guilty in a case that involved bogus testing for mad cow disease.

Roland Emerson Farabee, 55, had a federal government contract to collect samples from high-risk animals and submit them to the U.S. Department of Agriculture for testing. He was also supposed to keep the carcasses in a freezer until the tests were done.

But Farabee delivered tests from healthy animals and didn't keep the carcasses. He and his company, Farm Fresh Meats, Inc., pleaded guilty this week to theft of government funds, wire fraud and mail fraud. The scam cost the government $390,000.

Farabee was paid $150 for each specimen he submitted.

Guess this case just verifies what alot of people are thinking. USA is testing healthy animals, and then claiming to be BSE free...This is just one fellow that was doing this testing that was stupid enough to get caught. How many else are doing it that are just smarter than this guy and are not caught testing the healthy animals.

SWP signed an agreement to provide 400 thousand tonnes of feed wheat for ethanol production. Can they supply this amount, considering they probably won't be taking over AU? What are the implications for livestock industry? Does anyone know if they are contracting feed wheat and at what price?

Isn't the first and won't be the last time this happens. Astounding what you don't find when you don't look for it. At least i can sleep at night as we up here are testing so-called high risk cattle. Begs the question why would the US contractors test any target animals if they can get away being paid for testing non target animals. Why isn't the govenment down in the US doing the testing to give the program some credibility.
