    Will cool really matter?

    I am just wondering what difference COOL will really make. How often do any of you guys on either side of the border think about COOL on anything you buy? Where were your trucks and tractors built?
    Look at the average consumer. He doesn't give a crap where anything is made, as long as it is the best price. How else do you explain people buying billions of dollars of goods from China, a declared enemy of the US?
    I think people tell the pollsters that they like to buy local because it feels good to say but in reality, the pocketbook rules.
    If you people out there are looking at something (twine for example and assuming equal quality), do you ask where it was made or do you ask how much?
    Is the food market really any different.
    WillowCreek. If Canada has to label their beef as Canadian product under COOL then do US farmers have to label theirs as US? Will they have to maintain records to prove it? Sounds like a nightmare for both sides of the border.

    That is correct.. It will have to be labeled to the country of origin-whatever the country...And they will have to maintain the records to prove it-which should be no extra hardship or cost since the Packer/retailer has to do that now under the new Homeland Security Law...The only thing M-COOL will do is require them to provide that info to the consumer- rather than relabeling and trying to pass off the cheap imported product as US, like they now do...

    And food is not like a tractor or anything else.....Many want food that is fresh, local, and not imported from any Podunk country of the world- which was shown when the M-COOL was put on fish and seafood and many stores quit handling the imported product because the demand for it dropped so bad.....

    Canada will find that without regaining the identity of their beef (even in their own country)- they will not be able to compete with the generic beef from Argentina, Uruaguay, Brazil and other 3rd world countries the multinational Packers have expanded into...That is the reason the Packers/AMI have spent $ millions fighting the M-COOL law...

    If Canadian producers haven't found out that the Packers will sell you down the drain in a heartbeat by now-- its too late for me telling you.....
