    Custom grazing yearlings

Anyone have an idea of what the day rate for custom grazing yearlings ( 700lbs) for next year would be in central alberta? Cattle would be rotationally grazed, moved every couple of days. Thanks

Now I'm sure guys like grassfarmer can give you some kind of formula, much better than I could, but a good rule of thumb for yearlings is 2/3 of the rate for a cow/calf unit?
In Central Alberta(at least close to the highway II corridor) would be right around $30/month per cow/calf unit? 2/3 is $20...so should be around there? If the yearling gains 1.5 lbs/day that is 45 lbs. for $20 or about 44 cents for a pound of gain. On rotational tame pasture you might get a much higher gain so probably would expect to pay more?

Logically the price of gain in a grass situation should increase next year - it's certainly going to cost a lot more to grow them in a feedlot so the guy growing them on grass should be entitled to a bit more too. Whether it works out that way remains to be seen.
