    Wheat straw

Has anyone dropped wheat straw for fall grazing. Will they eat it or is it better to bale it for bedding or just put it through the chopper?

    Thanks

We've grazed it several times, and the cattle lick it right up. We've had situations where they've been on wheat straw and we've been feeding oat greenfeed, and they still go after the wheat.

Cows will eat willow sticks, caragana, and poplar bark.

So weather they eat it or not is not a gage as to the value of it.

I wonder if it would make any difference which chemicals were used on the straw, as to whether or not they eat it well?

A few years back when the entire crop froze out in our area there were thousands of canola bales made-cows really showed a preference for canola that had been dessicated before being baled.Wheat straw in a ration is perfectly fine if it is supplemented properly.
