Good News In Budget for Producer Packing Plants

This is the kind of government support we need to give producers an opportunity to participate in the beef industry beyond the farm gate. Well done, Ralph Goodale!

Federal Government "Delivers on Commitment" To AG CO-OPS
OTTAWA, Feb. 24 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada's co-operatives are applauding the federal government's decision to allow members of agricultural co-operatives to defer paying tax on patronage dividends they receive in the form of shares until the shares are disposed of. The announcement was part of the 2005 Federal Budget, tabled in the House of Commons yesterday.

The Committee recommended that the Government immediately allow the
deferral of tax on patronage dividends paid in shares, create a co-operative
investment plan to encourage agricultural co-operative members and employees to invest in their co-operatives, and undertake a review of tax and non-tax measures that would enable the co-operative sector to meet its capitalization needs. It identified a number of reasons to support the capitalization of
agricultural co-operatives: they play an important role in regional
development and the rural economy; they are an important part of Canada's
agricultural sector; and their presence supports and sustains family farms and small agricultural businesses throughout rural Canada.

Yes they are one can't help but think the board is doing what it can to
encourage delivery into the old crop. Both Chicago and Minneapolis have
significantly higher prices for new crop (9 cents Dec over March for Minn and 26 cents for Chicago Dec over March). Kansas is fairly flat. Yet the CWB is up to $21/t lower for new crop. Where are they getting their signals from ..... oh but then again it's just a PRO it doesn't really mean
    anything does it.....

Look at old crop and tell me who really wants to bet
#4 and feed wheat prices will hold flat or improve.
