    Sub Cu Injections

We just finished vaccinating our ewes with their pre-lambing clostridium shot. We did it under the skin near the foreleg. This needs us to set them up on their butt, which is alright as we can trim feet and crutch too.

Here is our question........ has anyone done this vaccination under the tail? This would be a much easier place to do it, both for ME and the very pregnant ewes.

We've never given an injection in the tail, but there may be some who have. One thing I would wonder about is if there is enough skin to be able to "tent" and give the injection. The other I would consider is if someone could mistake the injection site for some sort of problem.

When we vaccinated the goats, we always gave it behind the "elbow" at the front because it couldn't really be mistaken for anything else and if anyone felt the lump that is left, then it was easily explained.
