    Sask Carbon Tax

Sask has regained control of the carbon tax from the eastern commies and will now put it toward nuclear power and carbon capture. No solar and wind. Sorry chuck.

But thank god its not going to buying votes for Toronto soccer moms any more.

    ------

Moe eyes investing in nuclear once SaskPower carbon tax collected
Premier Scott Moe says Ottawa has $480 million in carbon tax dollars that it collected from SaskPower.

It still has to increase by the federal prescribed rate.

Not sure if Sask has clawed back control for both industrial emitters and residential users.

Oh shit Saskatchewan now has ownership over a carbon tax! How are they going to blame Ottawa for all their problems now?

Saskatchewan residents were already receiving most of the carbon tax back from the federal government anyway.

Now Moe wants to invest it in small modular nuclear reactors that are still on the drawing board with no license to operate until many many years away.

So if nuclear is such a good economic option why does the private sector not build capacity in Alberta and Saskatchewan without taxpayers subsidies?

Interconnections between all the nearby states and provinces along with a bigger investment in renewables would be a good option and build some lower cost resilience into the system. Renewables can't cover all our needs but they are the lowest cost option for a larger percentage of our electricity needs.

Alberta is leading Canada in renewable deployment because the economics in a deregulated electricity market support more investment. But nobody in the private sector is planning to build nuclear.

So Moe and Alberta the cheerleaders of the private sector and small government are going to choose nuclear the most expensive big government option subsidized by taxpayers? How ironic! LOL

So Case I see you are in favour of government subisdizing the least economic big government option of SMRs.

The bad news for climate change deniers is that Moe justifys SMRs as an option to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Why not. We sit on the stuff so we may as well use it as well.

they have been subsidizing the pipe dream of renewables, that won't ever supply 5% of worlds power needs and are going bankrupt every day

SMRs use enriched uranium which is not produced in Canada and will come from somewhere else.

For all the complainin about governments subsidizing certain sectors its pretty ironic to see the small government fiscal conservative types saying its okay to subsidize very expensive SMRs, along with the oil industry but never should we subsidize lower cost renewable options for energy. LOL

You keep referring to the oxymoron "lower cost renewables" as if they actually exist.

And if they did actually exist, no government would need to subsidize them, because the costs savings of switching from fossil fuels or nuclear would be incentive enough.

Are you daft. There is an enrichment facility in Ontario.

Christ half the nuke plants on the planet are using Sask uranium.

SMRs have been used on subs and carriers for 50 yrs.
