Haha thats awesome. And why not! An estimated 20% of the worlds population eats bugs. Another source of protein is always welcome ( and crickets are incredibly high in protein (65% vs 31 in chicken and 30 in beef) and its a complete protein with more iron than the same serving as spinach! Its actually pretty incredible how loaded crickets are in nutrients.
As for the subsidy.. well. Thats just the way things go. And frankly id rather see tax payer money go to things like cricket protein powdwr than bailouts/ tax credits for oil/gas companies such as longrun/arc resources..etc..that owed our local town over 1 million in back taxes which the town had to write-off in order to get a municipal subsidy ( taxpayer cash) of 350 k!

Plus there is some pretty cool research being done with the by product of cricket protein ( frass) and plant response when applied....

LOL, you do you. So glad I control my own proteins sources. Money for cricket research over oil and gas. Wow.

      Here is another yummy concoction

I think the worlds elite , extreme leftists , earth muffins and the leaders of the UN and WEF should have at er 👍👍. They can have my share
I will have my own protein in peas , faba beans , wild game and quality beef from local ranchers . Ohh and excellent local fish 😎😎
I won’t push meat on them , the can have all the cockroaches they want . Each to their own .
Also add Lamb from sheepwheat to my list 👌

Kinda sucky that sheepwheat is on the other side of the province that I couldn’t pop in for a feed of lamb. It’s like Jackfish is best eaten at someone’s camp who knows how to debone them. I can cook a decent fillet or burger and a deboned fish fillet but lamb I fear i would stuff it up and hate it. It’s like cooking pork chops on the bbq. Wife likes it but aside from bacon and sausage I’ll stick with other meats. I know it’s taboo here but I’d like to try horse.

This country is full of deer, elk and moose. Just a few miles to waters full of fish and we can grow potatoes, corn and other vegetables. All kinds of fruit growing beside the vegetables.
                  I ain’t eating no bugs!

New neighbour moved in and displaced the resident nutcase socialist, and we’ve gotten quite friendly. Invited me over for moose tenderloin and beatniks. Mouth is watering typing this. I come from the most typical British boring food background so when you have someone close of Ukrainian Polish Filipino East Indian Asian background giving you their food it sure is awesome.

Those beetniks are to die for, maybe not quite as tasty as crickets and mealworms but a close second for sure. Another great dish is pearl barley and rice precooked, then add lots of garden beets, tops and all, garlic and onion - cover with whipping cream, salt, pepper. Bake for 40 minutes, nothing finer than this dish with pickerel fillets. This was by far the best meal that I’ve had, might even beat lobster and king crabs.
