The Temperature map got the Precipitation map added to it by my camera…. Interesting superimposed map…

US drought map

Markets down, especially Soybeans, Chinese factory output came in significantly lower than expected… stalling their economy…

Oil down, Soybeans very much at risk… but if world economy is in recession… and Russia allows Ukraine to export… last week’s grain price increases will evaporate…

Aug 1, 2022 | 11:52 8 7 day rainfall forecast for the US

The markets seem to have bounced … Soybeans Dec
Only down 70 cents /bu right now…

US $ down to 105.7…

A good day to be short grain…

P.S.

Observation that there has been close to an 80% correlation between Crude Oil moves and US corn, and about 60% for US soybean recently. WTI down $4.85/barrel today.

Aug 2, 2022 | 12:16 9 So Tom, the only cooler weather window is Aug 16-23.
I suppose we've had frost that early in the past. Not likely though,,, unless they change the description to "Much Below Normal" Reply With Quote
Aug 2, 2022 | 12:36 10 Aug. 20 2004 froze hard and turned all the wheat into 2.00 feed wheat.

Aug 20 this year would be ugly! Reply With Quote

Agreed, I never forget that frost , most of us won’t .
And our Sask crop spokesperson at the time said it was just lite patchy frost in a few low lying areas. She should have been fired within a week of that , completely clueless. It was nearly western Canada wide and devastating for most farms . Frost kills Reply With Quote

  • Aug 2, 2022 | 12:47 12 Full Moon is August 11. That seems too early to freeze but maybe a month later (would be way better). Reply With Quote

Oh Ya, I remember,,, I bought a New Combine on Aug15th to harvest a beautiful crop!!!

Combined a Section of durum, basically for straw management, dumped about 3 hoppers in a slough, and burnt it. Pile had about 6-700bus of fluffy empty durum seeds, not worth the fuel to deliver to a feed mill, 45 miles away. Canola was a little earlier, straight cut it, but ended up with around 20-25% green. A beeatch to store, and get rid of ! Reply With Quote
Aug 2, 2022 | 13:40 16 Aug. 20 is brother-in-law birthday and 2004 he hit 40. We were all there enjoying cake and coffee with a thermometer in the middle of the table. About 9:00 the temp dropped below 0.
We all thought screw the coffee and got into the whiskey! Never will forget that night. Reply With Quote

  • Aug 3, 2022 | 11:53 17 Crops coming along fast in central Alberta… 2 weeks ahead of normal for many, definitely on the dry side, but the cooler weather has been allowing crops to fill… if the big white combine has missed your field…

Apparently France and England are 77% short of moisture this summer…

The jet stream reinforces the hot dry dome over the western row crop area over the next week…

Boxed Beef values have been quite consistent in 2022 compared to 2021 the red line is 2016-20.

We are going to run out of normal volumes of cattle for slaughter … next spring could be very short of beef.

Vancouver and Toronto July single detatched house sales in July are down 45%, basically an illiquid housing market…

    Interesting times… Reply With Quote

Aug 4, 2022 | 05:31 22 The blazing hot days just haven't happened in Manitoba yet and summer is mostly done. All that standing water takes a long time to warm up. Don't seem to get much heat from that burning hot Artic circle from all these northern winds we are getting. The bit of canola we did get in is blooming for a long time. Reply With Quote
Aug 4, 2022 | 06:28 23 None of the above matters if there is an early frost.

Will be chilly Saturday morning… should be fine but a little reminder that frost , like hail can take it all in the blink of an eye .

Says plus 6c here , that means 4 at best
Hopefully not colder that morning. Reply With Quote
