U.S. government places $119 million order for 13 million Monkeypox vaccine

10% fatality rate, that ought to get their attention this time.

Bavarian Nordic, the biotech company that makes the vaccine, has announced a $119 million order placed by the U.S., with the option to buy $180 million more if it wants. Should that second option be exercised, it would work out to approximately 13 million doses.

The order will convert existing smallpox vaccines, which are also effective against monkeypox, into freeze-dried versions, which have a longer shelf life. The converted vaccines will be manufactured in 2023 and 2024, the company says.

Bavarian Nordic has worked with the U.S. government since 2003 to develop, manufacture and supply smallpox vaccines. To date, it says, it has supplied nearly 30 million doses to the Department of Health and Human Services.

The U.S. isn’t the only country stocking up on the vaccine. On Thursday, Bavarian Nordic said an unidentified European country had secured a contract to obtain the vaccine.

When do we get in line?

So they already have a safe and effective vaccine? Yeah right. Where have we heard that before.

It's hard to blame you for your cynicism given all of the lies and perversion of science over this past 2 years. But the monkey pox vaccine is the smallpox vaccine which has been tested for over 6 decades. I've said it all along, that the most important outcome of the entire covet debacle was going to be the loss of trust in professionals and politicians. And this is a perfect example. This could end up being very serious, but the powers that be used up all of their Goodwill and lost all of their trust during the covid pandemic and will be impossible to regain it in time to stop an actual pandemic if it goes that direction.

Thanks Jazz, I stand corrected, if this is a new vaccine. Not sure why we needed to reinvent the wheel when the existing vaccine worked very effectively and safely.

They have a new formulation AF, just developed in 2019.

But maybe the cure will be communism again - that worked so well the first time.

          17 cases detected in Montreal

"Lies and perversion of science" Huh? That's another sweeping bonehead statement. So the covid science was all wrong? And how would you know this Dr. A5? There are only 1000s of scientists worldwide who are studying covid and working on vaccines and treatments and of course you have time and the training to evaluate it all? LOL

So have you stopped taking the advice of your health care professionals and veterinarians for your livestock?

The vast majority of people in Canada got vaccinated against covid and most followed the advice of experts and tried to reduce the spread of covid with masks and other measures.

Of course there are a few antivaxers and flat earthers who follow the online snake oil conspiracy salesmen but the vast majority of people still trust the advice of doctors and infectious disease experts and head to the doctors office and hospital when needed.

Lets look at the data Chuck.

84 million vaccines were done in Canada.

Most of the population got Covid.
                    Many did not even report.
                    Just stayed home as advised.

If the smallpox vaccine showed that kind of results would the survivors consider it successful?

Successfull is descibed in the dictionary as accomplishing an aim or purpose.
Did it preform as expected or did the spin try to modify what was accepted "success"?

And Chuck appears to have run out of supporting arguments or facts and is losing the debate again, in his very first post he has resorted to flat earth accusations already. Then moved onto cartoons.
Are you not concerned about the loss of trust in our institutions due to covid and global warming etc?

Monkeypox, camelpox, cowpox etc can be successfully prevented with the smallpox vaccine. Most of you old guys are probably vaccinated. Young guys under 60 I’m guessing never were vaccinated for it. Anything I could find says fatality rate is 1%. Smallpox vaccine was one of the first ever developed by accident. Think I’d be more worried about drug resistant TB in Russia and Asia.

Just like the Spars Senario and Event 201. We have this senario now coming to life.

'The exercise scenario portrayed a deadly, global pandemic involving an unusual strain of monkeypox virus that emerged in the fictional nation of Brinia and spread globally over 18 months. Ultimately, the exercise scenario revealed that the initial outbreak was caused by a terrorist attack using a pathogen engineered in a laboratory with inadequate biosafety and biosecurity provisions and weak oversight. By the end of the exercise, the fictional pandemic resulted in more than three billion cases and 270 million fatalities worldwide." this is from page 6...this was published march 2021
